Recently, Hayward recalled a funny story from one of those interviews, in which Metta World Peace, then known as Ron Artest, compared him to a mainstream pop star. “I remember, and this probably had nothing to do with me being white, but maybe my face and my hair and everything, but we played the Lakers, I think it was the preseason,” Hayward said, on the Dan LeBatard Show. “They had Ron Artest and I check in the game, and he likes to look at me, and he looks back at Kobe, and he looks back at me, and it’s like, ‘Hey Kobe,’ and he points at me and says ‘just throw. I got the ball in the post, look who’s guarding me, I got Bieber guarding me.’ And of course he just sent me up, and this was when Ron Artest was really good, I didn’t have a chance to guard him.
