Barcelona ‘offered’ Nico Williams an alternative to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have offered Barcelona the chance to sign striker Kingsley Coman on loan until the 2024/25 season, according to reports.

Barca have been interested in Spain international Nico Williams in the summer transfer window, but it looks unlikely that they will sign the striker from Athletic Club, who have not budged on their young star in the past few months.

The Catalan giants could make another left-back in their squad. Loanee Joao Felix played there regularly throughout the 2023/24 campaign, while Raphinha and Ferran Torres also came in, but SPORTS now they say Barca could take advantage of Coman being surplus to requirements under new manager Vincent Kompany in Bavaria.

The recent arrival of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace could hurt the 28-year-old’s game-time chances and the prospect of a reunion with former Bayern boss Hansi Flick at Barca could appeal.

However, Sky Germany added Barca have a problem with player registration as they are currently unable to add new stars to their roster after agreeing to a deal for RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo.

Bayern have not had any serious offers for Coman until now, but former club Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly monitoring the situation.

Barca are still hoping to reach an agreement with Athletic Club for Williams, with president Joan Laporta reportedly refusing to accept defeat in his pursuit of the Euro 2024 star.

Coman played a major role as Bayern won the sextuple in 2020, taking the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, DFL-Supercup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. It was his goal in the Champions League final that helped the German giants beat PSG during Flick’s time at Bayern.

The defender scored five goals in 27 games in all competitions last season but saw his run of 11 consecutive league titles come to an end as Bayer Leverkusen cruised to Bundesliga glory under Xabi Alonso.
