Newcastle are £5m short of completing ‘the best deal of the summer’

Newcastle United are just £5m short of signing one of their best players in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies are keen to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer.

Negotiations are still ongoing with Palace but an agreement has not yet been reached, however there is hope that an agreement will be reached soon.

The Magpies are looking for a new full-back after signing Lloyd Kelly in that role this summer.

Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen his defense after losing two of his key defenders to long-term injuries last season.

Newcastle are likely to break their transfer record if they complete the signing of Marc Guehi.

Their current record is the £63million they paid to sign Alexander Isak.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has provided the latest update on the transfer saga.

Speaking to Geordie Boot Boys, Bailey said:

“Discussions are ongoing between Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

“Palace are still looking at at least £70million, but we understand Newcastle want to pay around £65million, plus add-ons. They are not yet, but negotiations are ongoing. There is cautious optimism about the deal. Newcastle are optimistic – they seem very confident.

“It is an expensive deal, but he is an English player from a Premier League team. It is what it is, really.

“I think it will be a good signing if they can get a deal.”

This will be a game changer for Newcastle as they will be getting the best player in the league in his place.

The way he played for Palace and England showed his quality and how great he can be in the future.

Guehi can solve the defensive problems the Magpies have faced as he adds depth and quality to the squad.
