One of the two Duleep Trophy matches to be held simultaneously from September 5 is likely to be shifted from Anantapur to Bengaluru due to operational considerations. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has officially been announced to host the match.

The move to have more contracted players in the tournament is in line with the BCCI’s policy of ensuring that domestic cricket is given priority. In February, secretary Jay Shah sent a letter saying prioritizing the IPL over domestic cricket would lead to “serious consequences”, leading to Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan losing their mid-term contracts after missing some of the Ranji Trophy matches shortly before. the IPL.

Originally a regional tournament chosen by the coordinator of each of the six zones (North, South, East, West, Central and North-East), the status of the Duleep Trophy was changed earlier this season, on the recommendation of the BCCI. a team comprising former head coach Rahul Dravid, NCA chief VVS Laxman, Agarkar and BCCI general manager Abey Kuruvilla.

One of the reasons for this was to ensure that the selectors are able to give a large pool of players, including those in the target squad, enough opportunities to go into India’s Test season.
