Some of the best footballers to ever put on the boots played for Los Blancos, but only a select few made it to their Real Madrid debut.

Much of Real Madrid’s past and present success in Europe and Spain comes down to its world-class players. Over the years, Los Blancos have made blockbuster signings to bring the best talent in the world to Madrid, including David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and now, Kylian Mbappe. It took some players a while to find their place at the new club and in La Liga, but others were able to make an impact quickly.

Here is a breakdown of Real Madrid’s first ever matches.

Emilio Butragueno made his La Liga debut for Real Madrid against Cadiz on Feb. 5, 1984, and what happened soon marked his debut. The Spaniard came on in the second half after his side had trailed by two goals, and after just 45 minutes on the pitch, he scored a goal that sealed the three points for his side.

Real Madrid have had some memorable performances in their history, most recently Joselu’s heroics against Bayern Munich in the 2024 Champions League semi-final, but few have been able to do what Butragueno did on his Real debut. Madrid is sitting on their chest.
