Abdullah Mason: The Lightweight Hope Is Ready To Steal The Show
Abdullah Mason, a lightweight prospect, will be looking to shine in title action against Mike Ohan Jr. this Saturday, August 17th, on ESPN.
The southpaw Mason’s one-punch, combination punch, and natural killer power is fun to watch because he doesn’t waste time trying to box his opponents like most fighters.
Mason’s Rising Star Power
Mason stole the show from WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on July 6, destroying Luis Lebron with a third-round knockout at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
That was supposed to be Shakur’s plan, but Mason made him look bad, taking out Lebron and getting a standing ovation from the Newark crowd.
It wasn’t the first time Mason stood out in a big event because he just did it. He may do it on Saturday when he fights Ohan Jr. (19-2, 9 KOs) on the undercard of Christian Mbilli vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko at Center Videotron in Quebec City, Canada.
American fans are more interested in Abdullah Mason than seeing super middleweight Mbilli fight top veteran Derevyanchenko. Mason is considered the star of the event so far.
High Level Monitoring Methodology
Top Rank Mason bowed out in the main event fight Mbilli vs. Derevyanchenk and a feature clash between Aslanbek “The Lion” Makhmudov and Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello.
The 20-year-old Mason (14-0, 12 KOs) is considered the best fighter in the game, but he is still being brought up to speed by his promoters at Top Rank. However, Mason already looks good enough to beat WBC champion Shakur Stevenson and former 135-lb champion Devin Haney.
Mason’s power and relentless pressure on his opponents would be a nightmare for Haney or Shakur. It’s too bad Haney moved up in weight because he and Mason would be an interesting fight to watch.
Top Rank will hold the 5’9″ Mason back to wait until he gets more experience before putting him in the lead against Shakur if he still holds the WBC belt or another champion.
“I’m a seasoned veteran and I’m ready to show Top Rank what I’m all about,” Ohan said. “Don’t blink!”
Ready for the Top 10
Abdullah Mason looks ready to fight a top 10 lightweight right now. One of these fighters would do well to face the following:
– George Kambosos Jr.
– Joe Cordina
– Artem Harutyunyan
– Giovanni Cabrera
– Gustavo Lemos
– Nicholas Walters
– Angel Fierro
– Edwin de los Santos
