Gilbert Arenas Tells A Sweet Story About Trash Talking Dwyane Wade And He Regrets It

Gilbert Arenas shared a fond memory of talking trash with a young Dwyane Wade and quickly regretted it.

Arenas told the story on a recent episode of the OGs podcast.

“The beginning of the season has started, we will enter the 04-05 season,” said Arenas. “Everyone is talking about the Heat. You know, Shaq went there. And I said, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll just treat D-Wade like they did in the Olympics, just play the place.’ I didn’t think anything of it. Do you know how to look at the scoreboards (after the game)? Like, we have three games, like 40 (points), 45. Did you circle the day? Because the way is coming towards us…

“… I called the hotel. ‘Hey, Dwayne. Hey, man, listen. Yes, this is Gil. Hey, that thing, I don’t know if you’ve seen it in the last two weeks. Of course, they didn’t quite understand that. I’m not saying that, am I? Just to let you know. The warm-up line, (Wade is) in demon mode. I said, ‘I don’t know if he’s this hot, but he doesn’t look good, it doesn’t look like this call helped.’ I ended up saying nothing about the player.”

Arenas isn’t kidding when he says Wade destroyed the Wizards that season.

When the Heat met the Wizards in the second round of the 2005 playoffs, Wade finished the series with 31 points, seven rebounds and eight assists per game as Miami swept Washington.

The Heat then lost in the Eastern Conference finals to the Pistons that season, but Wade led them to the championship the following year.
