Ivan Toney is set for a big payday
The Saudi Pro League has put the cat among the pigeons regarding the current England international.
It looks like the 68th best league in the world (TeamForm) will stop at nothing to get the players they want, hoping that the bigger and bigger names will finally make it to the Gulf.
Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar are undoubtedly the biggest crowd pullers, although the latter has been injured most of the time since being transferred from Paris Saint-Germain.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney and England’s Ivan Toney were offered 15 times their salary by the Saudis
Square Mile notes that Ronaldo’s salary is a staggering £173m per year, making him the highest paid footballer in the world.
Neymar is second on that list, earning £86m a year, while Karim Benzema is at the top with a salary of £85m a year.
Lionel Messi’s £55m a year playing for Inter Miami will look paltry in comparison.
Going down the scale, the £15.4m-a-year deal for England international Brentford, Ivan Toney, will look like a drop in the ocean for Al Ahli, but that being said, it will still be a big pay day for the 28-year-old.
Foot Mercato reports on the offer made to Toney, to leave in the current transfer window.
Although it may not sound like much by today’s standards, Capology reports that he currently earns just over £1m a year at the moment.
Obviously, the Saudis will easily be able to pay for Toney’s transfer, so there will appear to be a big decision for the player to make in the next few weeks.
What SPL still lacks in infrastructure and popularity can be overlooked because of the amount of money deposited in the bank.
