“A deal has been reached” for the rematch of Fabio Wardley-Frazer Clarke’s British title

Today, in the latest British Boxing Board of Control Circular, it was revealed that an agreement has been reached for British champion Fabio Wardley to defend his title for the second time against Frazer Clarke.

The official wording reads: “After the agreement reached by both parties, the above competition will be promoted on a date and place to be announced.”

Back in March Wardley successfully retained his title by split. The three scorecards read 114-113 (Wardley), 113-113 and 112-115 (Clarke). A rematch between the two would represent Wardley’s second official defense of the title he won in October 2023 when he surprisingly stopped David Adeleye in seven rounds.

Clarke, however, was more than a match for Wardley but found himself on the canvas in the fifth round. Two rounds later the 2020 super-heavyweight bronze medalist was stripped of a point by referee Steve Gray for landing repeated low blows.

Regardless of the outcome it was a classic British title that joins a long list of historic Lord Lonsdale beltway ends. The two heavyweights threw the kitchen sink at each other and landed several heavy shots that had everyone in the O2 Arena gripped from start to finish.

News of a rematch will be music to the ears of boxing fans.

In other British title news Harry Scarff will make his first welterweight title defense against Liam Taylor. The vacant British super-lightweight title will go up against unbeaten duo Henry Turner and Jack Rafferty on October 5 at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena as part of the Nick Ball-Ronny Rios undercard. Former champion Dalton Smith defended it three times before vacating it to advance to the European and World divisions.

Down at super-flyweight there will be a battle for Liverpool as Marcel Braithwaite takes on Brandon Daord in the first defense of his British title. This 30-year-old player came to South Africa in April to win the IBO belt but was defeated by Ricardo Malajika who did well to go 12 rounds. Daord took the English title last December defeating Benn Norman on points.

Evergreen Jay Harris will defend his British and European flyweight titles against Conner Kelsall on a Queensberry Promotions card at a later date. Kelsall suffered a minor upset against Belfast prospect Conor Quinn in the Northern Ireland capital seven weeks ago. Harris, a former world title challenger, has been fighting for major titles since his 10th fight and is one of the UK’s most underrated fighters.
