The Rockies sent a lefty Josh Rogers Located in Triple-A Albuquerque. MLBTR confirmed the move, which was shown on the lefty’s tracker on MLB.com. There was no public indication that Rogers had been removed from the 40-man roster, so their number dropped to 39.
It’s the second time of the year for Rogers. Signed to a minor league deal in the offseason, he has been selected to the roster twice but without setting the tone at the big league level. He was initially added at the end of May but landed on the injured list in mid-June with a shoulder rotator cuff strain. He got out of IL after a month but was immediately selected, assigned and headed straight to Albuquerque.
With his previous careers, Rogers had the right to opt for free agency but chose to accept his assignment. That allowed him to be named to the team’s lineup again on Sunday and he pitched two and three innings against Colorado that day. After that exit, he was chosen to go to Albuquerque and it seems that the club put him on the back, transferring him anonymously in recent days. He still has the right to choose freedom but he can agree as he did earlier this year.
With that deal, Rogers has thrown 11 innings for the Rockies this year, allowing eight earned runs for a 6.55 ERA. Combined with his previous work with the Orioles and Nationals, he has a 5.55 ERA in 99 career innings. His 8.9% walk rate is on par with the league average but his 10.9% strikeout rate is significantly lower. He also pitched 57 2/3 Triple-A innings this year with a 6.71 ERA, 14.4% strikeout rate and 4.5% walk rate.
