Carmelo Anthony on Team USA’s Jayson Tatum

Carmelo Anthony says he didn’t like the way the American Team handled Jayson Tatum’s situation at the Olympics.

Kerr dishonorably DNPed Tatum in two Olympic games and played him just 11 minutes in the gold medal game against France.

“I understand why Jayson Tatum might not have played,” Anthony said on the 7PM Brooklyn podcast. “I don’t agree with the way they went.

“… They wanted him to do what Devin Booker did. Be four, space the court, play defense, and that’s it. But if you’re not told what your role is and you’re just told to see it, right now when I go into a game I’m overthinking. We are also human. Basketball players are people, athletes are people.”

Anthony also praised Tatum for the way he handled the situation.

“I want these young athletes here to know who you really are here,” said Anthony. “… This man has the best game in four or five years of any player in any sport. What he went through, I want everyone to see that—it’s—it’s painful to go through…on national television around the world… He was strong. He stood there and the world knew he was angry.”

Tatum finished the Olympics with 5.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He shot 38.1 percent from the field and missed all of his three-point attempts. The 71 minutes he played was the second fewest on the team.
