Dennis Schroder didn’t do well to get Kevin Durant following Team USA’s Olympic gold medal win.
During the Olympics, Schroder shared his thoughts on the major differences between European and American playing styles. He pointed out that European basketball is about “straight-up IQ basketball,” while the American game puts more emphasis on “having fun.”
Durant later referenced Schroder’s comments when he posted a photo of Team USA celebrating their gold medal win, complete with the caption “ENTERTAINMENT & IQ”.

Durant’s tweet went viral, garnering 214,000 likes and 6.4 million views.
Schroder responded during the Twitch stream and called Durant “weak” for his post.

“You’re that kind of star, and you have to say something to someone like me that you didn’t mean to be wrong,” Schroder said. “This is what I see from both sides, you know what I’m saying? I didn’t appreciate it. I don’t care, but in the end, that tweet, and whatever he sent, was for me. For me, it’s never been a bad thing. I respect all those guys, all the goats, but to say that tells me how weak you are as a person.”
Schroder is not the first player to talk about the difference between European basketball and the NBA.
Even Kobe Bryant, who spent a lot of time in Italy when he was young, said in 2015 that “European players are very talented” and “teach the game the right way at a young age.”
And although Bryant’s comments were also a criticism of the way basketball is taught in the US, especially in the AAU system, Schroder was simply looking at the difference between basketball in Europe and the US.
But that didn’t stop KD from clapping back.
