Matty Beniers, signed for 7x$7.1M by SEA, is a young defensive minded playmaking center. He took a step back in year two but offers value as a shutdown option who can create pass rush plays, though his team often doesn’t produce many if any opportunities. #SeaKraken pic.twitter.com/VhcIzXMrox

The Philadelphia Flyers are looking to terminate Ryan Johansen’s contract
Philadelphia Flyers: (statement) “The Philadelphia Flyers placed forward Ryan Johansen on unconditional waivers today for the purpose of terminating his contract due to violations. The Flyers will have no further comment at this time. “
Chris Johnston: Johnson will have 60 days to file an appeal with the NHLPA after his contract is terminated. He may have done this with former players he has interviewed.

Elliotte Friedman: Statement from Johansen’s agent Kurt Overhardt.
“Ryan Johansen is seriously injured in hockey which requires a major surgery which has been planned.
Since being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, Ryan has worked faithfully with the Club, its medical staff, and certified third-party physicians.
The Flyers’ attempt to terminate Ryan’s contract is disappointing.
We have been in contact with the NHLPA and will defend Ryan and protect his rights. “
Elliotte Friedman: “More information: Johansen is expected to be saddened by the termination; The leaflets do not comment, but make it clear that they will present their case if asked to do so. So, although the contract may be terminated tomorrow, there will be a little process here.”
Elliotte Friedman: Several sources said that the problem was the injury that prevented Ryan Johansen from playing for the Flyers after being traded to the Flyers by the Colorado Avalanche.
Charlie O’Connor: “Earlier this summer, I got the impression that the Flyers weren’t going to get lawyers involved in Johansen’s situation and maybe they were going to let us play out the last year of his contract. Folks, it looks like the lawyers are involved.”

The NHL CBA has for example an SPC (standard player contract) with language related to “material breach.”
The flyers apparently think Johansen “failed, refused, or neglected” the team’s rules enough to commit a specific violation, though it’s not clear which rule. pic.twitter.com/uqmc9hdycr
