Lester Martinez returns to action to face Joeshon James on September 11 in Florida

Lester Martinez continues his march to the top of the super middleweight division.
“No one wants to fight Lester Martinez. It’s that simple,” Glover told The Ring. “For me, (Christian) Mbilli is ready, (Diego) Pacheco is ready, (Erik) Bazinyan is ready. He will fight any of these kids, but no one wants to fight him. Joeshon James stands up. He has more balls than all these other fighters. Joeshon James is a child of the game. I have a lot of respect for him, but Lester Martinez is world class and a future world champion.”
In his last fight on June 28, Martinez (18-0, 15 knockouts) scored an impressive unanimous decision victory over Carlos Gongora. It was a one-sided victory for Martinez against his biggest rival in Gongora, who fought Billi until he lost by decision.
On February 23rd, in his hometown of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Martinez knocked down Ruben Angulo once en route to a second round knockout victory in a busy fight.
The 28-year-old is trained by Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre, Esau Dieguez and Red Spikes, all of whom also train WBA junior middleweight world champion Terence Crawford.
Martinez and Crawford made headlines a few weeks ago after a photo of them chatting alone at a Las Vegas gym went viral on social media. Crawford wanted to spoil Martinez in anticipation of a chance to fight Ring super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.
Before several fights under the banner of ProBox TV, Martinez stopped a single blow against Isaiah Steen on April 10 of last year.
James (9-0-2, 5 KOs), who lives in Sacramento, California, defeated Vaughn Alexander by unanimous decision in his last fight on February 16. In his last fight on October 21, James stopped David Stevens in the opening round. a clash between undefeated prospects.
The 26-year-old went on a four-fight undefeated streak, culminating in a knockout victory over Stevens. James scored the game-winning goal against Richard Brewart, Jr. in September 2022 and a split decision draw against Javier Martinez about eight months later.
James has faced a total of six undefeated players so far in his career.
