A man has been arrested and charged after stealing custom sneaker boxes from the front porch of Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway.
26 pairs of shoes were stolen from 42-year-old Ronald James, who was caught on video driving a cart full of boxes containing merchandise.
James was charged with theft of property, said Memphis police spokesman Joseph Hibler ESPN.
Memphis Police say officers responded to a burglary call around 7:20 pm on August 8th.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Memphis Police reported that when officers arrived at the scene, they were told security camera footage captured “a male pushing a shopping cart and stealing multiple packages.”
The police also released still images of the suspect who was wearing a black tank-top and long pants and asked anyone who knows him to come forward.
Hardaway, the current coach of the University of Memphis said WREG that the shoes were “one-of-a-kind foams and were family and friend only that would not be sold in stores.”
Police have not yet revealed if the shoes have been found and if they will be returned to the NBA star.
Nike’s Foamposite line was made popular by Hardaway when he played for the Magic in the 90s and remains a popular shoe line today.
Last year, Nike released the Nike Air Max Penny 1 Lester Middle School plans to pay for his school – where he studied as a student and later trained.
Hardaway will enter his seventh season with the Tigers, who will open the regular season against Missouri on Nov. 4 at the FedExForum.
