Women’s PGA Cup team announced – Golf News
The PGA has announced a five-player squad to represent Great Britain & Ireland at the 2024 Women’s PGA Cup, which will be held at Sunriver Resort in Oregon, USA from October 3-5.
Led by captain Cathy Panton-Lewis, the GB&I team includes four players who have earned their places in the 2023/24 Women’s PGA Professional Championship and WPGA Series, fifth place being the captain’s choice.
Holly Morgan and Heather MacRae claimed the first two spots after the women’s PGA Professional Championship, while Ali Gray and Marie Martindale claimed the next two after the final qualifying event earlier this week. Suzanne Dickens was then chosen to complete a strong series.
This third stage of the event sees five PGA Member teams compete against their PGA Professional counterparts from the United States, Canada, Sweden, South Africa and Australia over three days. Each team member will play 18 holes each day, with the lowest three out of five scores counting for the team. The team with the lowest 54-hole score wins.
Panton-Lewis is happy with the squad that contains the experience and talent that he hopes will find victory.
“I have the best five players, and it’s really exciting,” he said. “Marie and Holly are beginners, but both bring valuable experience from their time at American colleges. Heather, Alison and Suzanne are seasoned players.
‘I’m focused on helping the players do their best while keeping it fun – it’s an important competition, but I don’t want them to feel intimidated. I want them to enjoy the experience.”
