NHL.com: Some believe the trade may be stalled until next week but the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators agreed to a trade late Friday afternoon. Nashville traded Yaroslav Askarov to San Jose.
San Jose acquired minor leaguer Nolan Burke and a 2025 third-round pick. Nashville received a conditional 2025 first-round pick. If that pick is in the Top 10, the Sharks get to pick their pick or the Vegas Golden Knights’ pick they get in the Tomas Hertl trade.

By extension, Askarov will not be a free agent until the 2027-28 season. He will still be only 25 years old.

The good news for San Jose is that Vitek Vanecek and Mackenzie Blackwood are only under contract for one more season. Both became unrestricted free agents at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
NHL Rumors: Talking about goaltenders like Jeremy Swayman
This could be a short-term uptick and given the injury history of Vanecek and Blackwood, Askarov could be the starter before too long. It is said that the Russian goalkeeper will have no problem going to Barracuda. Then again, he might not be around for long.
