Liverpool vs Brentford: Preview, predictions and fixtures
Anfield gets its first look at Arne Slott’s Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon when the Reds take on Brentford.
The spirited city of Ipswich made life difficult for the Dutchman’s Premier League-winning team Slot last weekend, but the 2019/20 champions kicked into gear in the second half and ran out 2-0 winners.
The signs have been excellent for the new manager, who continues to work with the same set of players that Jurgen Klopp had during his last spell on Merseyside.
Liverpool have released several stars from their opponents on Sunday, while Brentford will still have to deal with the sale of Ivan Toney. Despite many concerns over the club’s recruitment, Thomas Frank guided the Bees to an opening weekend victory over Crystal Palace last Sunday. Their record at Anfield is poor, however, with Brentford yet to score a Premier League goal away from Liverpool.
Here it is 90 min preview of Liverpool’s clash with Brentford on Sunday.

There are no significant injury concerns for Slot early in his season, although Jarell Quansah is said to be questionable for Sunday’s game with a hamstring complaint.
The defender was withdrawn at half-time against Ipswich due to a problem, and was replaced by Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman should partner Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.
Konate’s inclusion is expected to be the only change from the starting Premier League XI slot. Diogo Jota should beat out Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo for the starting spot.
Liverpool predicted to face Brentford (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Jota, Diaz.
Brentford have dipped their toe into Liverpool a few times this summer. After signing Fabio Carvalho for £27.5m, the Bees have also brought in defender Sepp van den Berg. Both are expected to be there to face their former club this weekend.
Frank did not like the form of striker Toney in Sunday’s game, with the Brentford manager failing to confirm that the striker, who continues to be linked with a move, will feature at Anfield.
The visitors will be without three injured players Joshua Dasilva, Igor Thiago and Aaron Hickey.
Brentford predicted to face Liverpool (3-5-2): Flekken; Ajer, Collins, Mee; Roerslev, Norgaard, Jensen, Janelt, Lewis-Potter; Wissa, Mbeumo.
There are a few slot issues to iron out and Brentford will feel out of control in the middle of the park on Sunday given the problems Ipswich presented the Reds with in the first half last week.
The guests will aim to contain their smart hosts before they break away from their attackers when they attack. The slot structure will be tested by the Bees, who excel in substitution, and Alisson may have to bail out for Liverpool at times.
This won’t be a walk in the park for the Merseyside outfit, but it’s always hard to bet against them at Anfield.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Brentford
