Chelsea hat-trick hero tells Wolves their city is ‘beautiful’ after Instagram post

Noni Madueke has apologized for a letter criticizing Wolverhampton that appeared on his Instagram account the night before the Chelsea striker scored a hat-trick against Wolves.

Madueke’s social media message used profanity to describe “all about” the city, which he quickly explained was posted on the wrong account while saying viewers saw it “very quickly”.

“I want to apologize to everyone I may have offended,” Madueke told Premier League Productions after his 15th-minute treble helped the Blues to a 6-2 win at Molineux for their first Premier League victory under new manager Enzo Maresca.

“It’s just human error, an accident. It was not intended for me to go out on social media like that. I’m sure Wolverhampton is a great city and I’m sorry.”

Madueke’s Instagram post was caused by ‘pressure’

The 22-year-old faced an underwhelming reception from the home fans just hours after being sent off. “As for the boos, I was expecting it,” he said. “It’s part of the game. You have to be able to play under that kind of pressure.”

Nicolas Jackson did nothing to further endear Chelsea to the home crowd by appearing to wow the home crowd after taking 98 seconds to score Sunday’s opener.

Wolves equalized twice in the first half, Madueke scored three goals all assisted by Cole Palmer.

Joao Felix’s substitute Joao Felix struck a chord at the end of the week when Maresca praised Madueke but admitted he did not know if the England Under-21 international would be at the club after the transfer window closed on Friday evening.

Madueke is ‘happy’ with Maresca

“Everyone saw what he did at Leicester last year,” Madueke said of the Italian, who publicly called on him to find greater consistency in training.

“He is still obsessed with details. Even in the beginning [Premier League] game against City [2-0 home defeat]there were some good patterns to play but we just couldn’t finish them off.”

Having scored in Chelsea’s 2-0 first-leg win over Swiss side Servette on Thursday, Madueke is looking to finish the job and qualify for the Uefa Europa Conference League after Thursday’s away second leg (7.30pm BST).

“It’s a good day today,” he added. “I’m happy [Maresca] he got his first Premier League win at Chelsea and we’ll go into midweek in Geneva.”
