Joe Root came up with the infielder Nasser Hussain during England’s win over Sri Lanka

It’s about winning the game no matter what

The right-hander was philosophical about the challenge, saying that sometimes winning requires accepting the “ugly” side of the game.

“Hopefully it’s just one game, but sometimes you have to win badly. We still won with a day to go, and that shows that we stick to the goals we believe in as a team and progress togetherer,” he said

The Old Trafford pitch, similar to subcontinental conditions, gave England a tough test. Root emphasized that playing Sri Lanka under such conditions is as close to the challenge of playing in Sri Lanka itself as you can get in England.

“For us to handle that well and close it is a really good step for this team,” he added.
