Liverpool’s incredible stats show why they can challenge for the title

Liverpool put up some surprising figures during their 2-0 win against Brentford on Sunday which shows why they are so dangerous for the Premier League title.

Arne Slot registered his first win as Liverpool manager at Anfield on Sunday when his Reds overcame a toothless Brentford side to win 2-0.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring with a sharp strike, getting on the end of Diogo Jota’s ball before beating the keeper.

Mohamed Salah then put the bow on top late in the second half, when his soft chip into the bottom corner wrapped up all three points for the Reds.

Although it is too early for the season to start predicting in an informed way, there is no doubt that Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool will once again fight for the top.

Liverpool’s attacking statistics

Despite collapsing in the last half of last season, the Reds have shown that they are the best in the league in one aspect, the counter attack.

Diaz’s opener on Sunday meant Liverpool had scored more goals at half-time, 14, than any other team in the Premier League over the past three seasons.

The ability of teams to destroy the counter has always been a big part of Jurgen Klopp’s game and it looks like Slot has the same ideas that he will do this season as the Reds chase a second Premier League title.
