Every player that comes out of Liverpool competes
Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion when they host their fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League.
The Red Devils are yet to find their feet in 2024/25 after a Community Shield defeat on penalties, an upset at the Amex Stadium and a late victory over Fulham. A good result against Liverpool could start their campaign.
However, injuries continue to make life difficult for Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. The Dutch coach is on his deadline to sign the undrafted Manuel Ugarte, with a number of his new Man Utd teammates stuck in the treatment room.
Defense is where Man Utd have been hurt the most by fitness concerns, both left backs Luke Shaw again Tyrell Malacia both are sidelined. That means Diogo Dalot is likely to start on the left side of defence, with new signing Noussair Mazraoui at right back.
Another new coach is also not working for the Red Devils. Leny Yoro he suffered a serious injury in the preseason and is unlikely to appear until November at the earliest. Partner at center back Victor Lindelof he’s out with a toe injury, too.
As already mentioned, Man Utd will be without Uruguayan midfielder Ugarte for the trip to Liverpool, with the club failing to sign the former Paris Saint-Germain man during the weekend’s game. He will be available after the upcoming international break.
Unfortunately for Ten Hag, he doesn’t have it Mason Mount once again. The former Chelsea midfielder picked up an injury against Brighton last week and will miss the whole month. He spent most of last season without playing.
Joshua Zirkzee made an impressive start to life at Man Utd with the winning goal on his debut against Fulham two weeks ago, but the Ten Hag have routinely used Bruno Fernandes as a false nine so far this season. That could be the case this weekend, too.
Fernandes’ promotion came as a result of injury Rasmus Hojlundwho picked up a hamstring against Arsenal in pre-season. The Danish striker could return after the international break.
