Slot hails Liverpool’s ‘outstanding’ performance against Manchester United

Liverpool coach Arne Slot was happy with his team’s dominance when they beat Manchester United 3-0.

The Reds were in good form against their arch-rivals at Old Trafford, with Luis Diaz scoring Mohamed Salah’s usual goal at home.

Erik ten Hag’s side have had no answer to the possession-based style Slot has used on Merseyside so far, and it was a complete performance from his side, who kept their perfect record.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: “In the first few minutes, United started aggressively and we had to fight to pass the time.”

“When you go to Old Trafford we know there will be difficult times. After scoring a good disallowed goal we continued to play as we had been before. I think it’s a deserved victory.

“There is no specific game plan from the back, we always want to press the opponents up. Game plan – Dominik [Szoboszlai] he played on the right, but today we played him on the left.

“Last season Man Utd were holding their own in the middle of the field, this season they are in the ninth and tenth stages with 4-4-2. In my opinion, they work hard when the ball is played to them to run a lot – that’s what I saw in the first games from them.

“Today we showed a lot of times when the players looked back with strength and that’s what we need if we want to win these games.”

Man United simply did not attend the big event and it meant that Liverpool could breathe a sigh of relief after going 3-0.

In fact, it could have been more had it not been for some wasteful finishing from the Reds.

Slot added: “Everyone [games so far] it means a lot. The first was my debut as manager of Liverpool and the second was my first home game.

“This was my first big win. They have shown me in the past weeks that they can work hard. We were very dominant with the ball and playing in the middle of the three.

“If Cody Gakpo is on the bench, then Darwin Nunez and Chiesa will appear. that is what is needed at this level. The midfield continued to run and it was great to see. “

Liverpool fans will have to wait to see their team play again until the international break.

Once the players have returned from their duties, they will face Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
