James was frustrated by suggestions that Salah could leave Liverpool
Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James could be surprised if the Merseysiders choose to replace Mohamed Salah at the end of the season.
Salah is out of contract next summer and made the comments following his impressive performance at Old Trafford yesterday where he scored once and assisted Luis Diaz’s two goals in Liverpool’s 3-0 lead against Manchester United.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Egyptian player said: “To be honest, I was coming to this game [as if] it would be the last time [playing at Old Trafford]. No one has spoken to me at the club about contracts. It’s not for me, it’s up to the club.
“As you know, this is my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it, I don’t want to think about it. I feel free to play football and let’s see what happens next year.”
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot declined to comment on the matter after the game but James, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning, says the 32-year-old appears to be playing better than ever.

James said: “I think Mo Salah got a haircut and got better! For years she was an icon with her hair. His touch was better, he looks like a new player both visually and performance wise.
“I think however Arne Slot does – whether through training or individual work – he gets the best out of a player that Liverpool fans have thought of for years and years and he has been at the top level.
“If he’s going to continue like this, why would you want to try to bring someone else in when you’ve got Mo Salah doing like this?”
