Suryakumar Yadav has pulled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a hand injury

Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the opening round of the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy to nurse a hand injury sustained during the pre-season in Mumbai at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore. Suryakumar has been asked to rest and is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for regular check-ups.

Suryakumar did not bat in the second innings of the match against TNCA XI last week, after injuring his hand while playing on the third day. Meanwhile, the Mumbai team management confirmed that the move was in recognition of his participation in the season opener of the Duleep Trophy.

Suryakumar, India’s T20I captain, recently expressed his desire to return to Tests. Having not played first-class cricket in over a year, Suryakumar made himself available at the pre-season Buchi Babu Tournament to prepare for red-ball cricket with India scheduled to play 10 Tests over the next five months, starting with two. -match series against Bangladesh from September 19 in Chennai.

Suryakumar, the only Test player so far who came last year against Australia, has been named in the India C squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, to face Shreyas Iyer’s India D in Anantapur. India A and India B will play together in the other opening round at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Recently, fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik were also ruled out of the opening round of the Duleep Trophy due to illness, and Ravindra Jadeja was withdrawn, although no reason was given by the BCCI. Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav will replace Siraj and Malik in the India B and C squad respectively.
