Top 10 Premier League Players: August 2024
The first month of the 2024/25 Premier League season is in the books and it’s fair to say that it went pretty much as expected.
Stars such as Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have played at world class level, Manchester United have struggled to find form and the likes of Brighton and Aston Villa have shown glimpses of their ability to compete for European titles.
After all that fun, here it is 90 min to pick the ten best players since August – ranked.
Best performance: Goal and star turn vs Arsenal
After a superb campaign at Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023/24, Joao Pedro has appeared to take his game to the next level at the start of the new season.
His goals against Arsenal and Manchester United saw Brighton take an impressive four points from their difficult fixtures in August and helped the coastal club climb to third in the Premier League heading into the international break.
Best performance: Four goal contributions vs Wolves
Although results and performances have not been consistent for Chelsea at the start of the new season, star player Cole Palmer has been as impressive as ever.
The newly crowned PFA Young Player of the Year now has five goals to his name, thanks in large part to his masterclass in the 6-2 win over Wolves where he bagged a goal and three assists.
Best performance: Man of the match performance vs Ipswich Town
For what it’s worth, Kevin De Bruyne is probably the best midfielder in the world.
And thanks to Man City fans, De Bruyne was in perfect form at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
That made City the winningest team at the start of the season, as KDB says it will be three wins for their team in August.
You are a different class.
Best performance: Clean sheet vs Man Utd
Liverpool’s performance in August has been largely centered on veterans regaining their form, with Virgil van Dijk being one of those players.
Van Dijk’s Reds have started the season with three clean sheets in three games, with their centre-back in impressive form after doing so well.
His ability to completely dismiss Joshua Zirkzee in the win over Man Utd was absolutely amazing.
Best performance: Brace vs Southampton
No Ivan Toney? No problem.
With their former star striker upping sticks and moving to the Saudi Pro League, Bryan Mbeumo has been tasked with being Brentford’s main goalscorer for 2024/25 and boy oh boy has he arrived.
His three goals in three games so far have seen Brentford take six points to start the campaign. It was beautiful.
Best performance: Player of the match vs Wolves
Bukayo Saka has been tipped by many to win every player of the year award this season and, judging by his exit in August, it’s easy to see why.
Arsenal’s ‘Starboy’ has been as consistent as ever in the opening weeks, being involved in the goals in all three of his side’s games so far.
Best performance: Hat-trick vs Wolves
Considering how many players Chelsea have on the books (a billion at our last count), Noni Madueke has been an amazing starter for Enzo Maresca so far.
And it is fair to say that Madueke grabbed that chance to surprise with both hands.
The wide forward’s hat-trick in the win over Wolves was the best display we have seen in 2024/25 so far.
Best performance: Brace vs Man Utd
After being given the starting spot on the left side ahead of Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz has been very successful under new manager Arne Slot.
The forward has four goals and two player of the match awards already written to his name, especially when he scored a goal in a 3-0 win over Man Utd which will end on Sunday.
Best performance: Three goal contributions against Man Utd
Yes, another Liverpool player. And the best of the lot, too.
Mohamed Salah is back to his best, best in 2024/25, scoring a blistering three goals and three assists to fire the Reds into an early title race with Manchester City.
This veteran star thrives under Slot.
Best performance: Hat-trick vs West Ham
Three games = seven goals.
Erling Haaland is unstoppable.
The striker is on course for another record-breaking campaign in front of the Manchester City goal.
