Premier League predictions: 10 best goalkeepers for the 2024/25 season

The 2024/25 Premier League is underway, and with it comes the return of 90 min The Top 90 series, where we rank the players we think will do the best this season.

First up is our prediction for the top ten Premier League goalkeepers for the 2024/25 campaign.

From the few struggling to survive in the Premier League, to those aiming to win titles, there is plenty of talent among the clubs to choose from.

Here are our picks for the top ten – ranked, of course.

Alphonse Areola

The French goalkeeper was finally named West Ham’s number one last season, and it’s fair to say he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Areola was at his best for the Hammers in 2023/24, making the third most saves in the Premier League and regularly relieving his under-fire manager David Moyes.

Now under the tutelage of new manager Julen Lopetegui, we fully expect Areola to continue his fine form at the London Stadium in the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Oliver Glasner had a difficult decision this summer over who should be handed the Crystal Palace number one jersey: Sam Johnstone or Dean Henderson.

Although Johnstone made an impression last season, Glasner chose Henderson and, so far, it has proved to be the best decision.

The youngster’s recent form has earned him a call-up to the England senior team after a few years in the dark. It was beautiful.

Having already played for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 as the tournament’s youngest goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen is expected to take his game to the next level in 2024/25.

So far, those expectations seem to be coming true. The 22-year-old’s shot-stopping ability and ability on the ball have been key to Brighton’s strong start to the new campaign.

Ederson was expected to leave Manchester City during the summer transfer window.

Finally, the Brazilian has settled in the north of England and it looks like he has earned his starting place from Stefan Ortega in the first few weeks of the campaign.

So why is the three-time Premier League Golden Glove winner so low on this questionable list?

Well, in truth, his form hasn’t been great over the last 12 months, with the few stops that have been made looking very difficult.

The City goalkeeper’s future will depend heavily on how he performs between the sticks in 2024/25.

Guglielmo Vicario hit the big time in north London in his first season at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian made highlight reel save, after reel save, after reel save, in 2023/24, and we expect the same during the current campaign.

Jordan PickfordJordan Pickford

Simply put, Everton are not a Premier League club right now without Jordan Pickford.

In many ways, England’s best player single-handedly kept the Toffees in the top flight last season with a string of inspirational performances in April and May.

If Everton are to hope to remain effective in 2024/25, they will need their goalkeeper to do the same.

He may get a lot of stick, but one cannot deny that Andre Onana has rediscovered his best form in 2024.

The fact that he made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League last season proves that.

Expect the Manchester United star to continue to improve as he regains his confidence between the sticks in the coming months.

Aston Villa’s arguably the best business during the summer transfer window have been tying down their star goalkeeper Emi Martinez to a new long-term contract.

The World Cup winner has been a key reason why Aston Villa have become a UEFA Champions League club, and they will continue to be so as long as Martinez is at his best between the sticks.

After sacking Aaron Ramsdale last season and moving to Arsenal permanently, David Raya looks set for a big 2024/25 at the Emirates Stadium.

Early season performances have shown as much though, with the number one proving his worth both on and off the pitch in the first few weeks.

Alisson BeckerAlisson Becker

Alisson Becker is the best goalkeeper in the world, never mind the Premier League.

In fact, nobody even comes close to being on Alisson’s level right now.

That he hasn’t conceded a single goal so far in 2024/25 is proof of that.

He is a different broth.
