Charles Barkley is going to defend Dallas star Luka Doncic for his criticism following the NBA Finals.
“Do you see how quickly they opened Luke up in the Finals?, said Barkley Bill Simmons podcast. … Luke is the only reason they are in the Finals,” Barkley exclaimed. “And after Game 1 and Game 2, they’re like ‘Luka can’t play defense, that’s why the Celtics are up 2-0, 3-0.’ I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, he’s the only reason they’re in the Finals.’
Simmons responded, “I’ll tell you,” Bill Simmons, a noted Celtics fan began, “I was—I was nervous when he was carrying the ball or shooting. Like he’s 10 out of 10 against his team, I’m always in awe of him. I think he needs to be in better shape on the one hand, but on the other hand, maybe this is the right situation for him. Because he is so big that he can abuse everyone.”
Barkley responded, “Yeah, I think he needs to be in better shape but that’s the only reason, no disrespect to Kyrie. [Irving]but he’s the reason they’re in the finals, but I love how quickly these talking heads turn to these players, because last week, we were bragging ‘Hey man, this is Luka Doncic, is he the next great player in the NBA? Then when the Celtics had the better team going up 3-0, ‘Luka doesn’t play defense, he’s the reason’… [Larry] A bird and another person are together’ but that’s what I hate about our business, men. There are a lot of guys who turn around quickly.”
Luka sure has a lot to prove this season, if you ask the NBA media.
