Chelsea owners are exploring options after relationship breakdown

The Chelsea owners are reportedly assessing their future together following the breakdown of their relationship.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, led by Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in 2022 and have directed a whirlwind of record spending and largely disappointing performances on the pitch.

Reports of a rift between Boehly and Eghbali surfaced earlier this year and they have been shot down by the club, but Bloomberg now they say the breakdown of their relationship has led both parties to consider all options available to them.

Both Boehly and Clearlake are believed to be looking at buying more of their shares in Chelsea amid concerns about their ability to work together effectively going forward.

Clearlake is the majority owner with a 61.54% stake. Boehly owns the remaining 38.46% alongside Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss.

The Telegraph he added that Clearlake does not want to sell their shares and would be interested in increasing its ownership of the group.

Boehly and Eghbali are believed to have clashed over Chelsea’s recruitment policy, playing on the pitch and the lack of progress in building a new stadium.

It is stressed that everyone involved remains committed to Chelsea and still plans to manage the club professionally, although their back-to-back issues have led to both exploring whether a split is possible.
