Jamal Musiala admits he is talking to the new Man Utd star about a move to Old Trafford
Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has confirmed that he had a conversation with his best friend Joshua Zirkee about joining Manchester United – but the pair were just messing around.
Zirkzee completed a £36.5m move from Bologna to United in the summer transfer window after two impressive seasons in Italy, having previously joined Bayern’s academy.
The 23-year-old Dutchman made 17 appearances for the senior team before moving on to pastures new, and remains close friends with Musiala, who starred for Germany at Euro 2024 in the summer.
Shortly after signing for the Red Devils, Zirkzee was recorded suggesting to his fans that he tried to persuade Musiala to meet him at Old Trafford.
In interview no Welt am SonntagMusiala revealed that the two had spoken about the German player joining Zirkzee in Manchester – but it was a conversation where the close friends joked about playing in the same team.
“You always joke with your friends and dream of playing together in the same team one day,” explained Musiala. “Jokes go both ways: I also told Josh that he should go back to Bayern. But you shouldn’t take that too seriously.”
Zirkzee has scored one goal in three games for United so far, coming off the bench to score the winner against Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League season. However, the Red Devils are unbeaten against Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool since then.
Meanwhile, Musiala has one goal in his first two Bundesliga games with Bayern to start the 2024/25 campaign. He was left out of the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist earlier this week despite his performances for club and country last year.
Musiala’s future at Bayern has been in doubt over his contract until 2026 and no agreement has been reached over a new contract.
