A financial expert reveals how much he thinks Sterling will cost Arsenal

Financial expert Stefan Borson believes Arsenal are likely to pay around £6m for Raheem Sterling this season.

Sterling joined the Gunners on a season-long loan deal on deadline day from rivals Chelsea after being told he was no longer part of the club’s project.

The 29-year-old was one of the best players to train with Chelsea’s under-21s, and had it not been for his late move to the Emirates the England international would have faced the prospect of being out of action until January.

It’s fair to say that Sterling has not lived up to expectations at Stamford Bridge following his £50m move from Manchester City in 2022.

Although he showed glimpses of what he can do, the ball-winner did not deliver and even attracted the attention of Chelsea fans last season.

Sterling has three years left on his current deal which is reportedly worth £300,000-a-week, with Chelsea believed to be pocketing at least 50% of his wages.

The Blues reportedly won’t get a loan deal and have just fixed the problem in 12 months, but they will be grateful to have part of Sterling’s huge salary on their books.

Financial expert Brsson believes Sterling will end up costing Arsenal around £6m this season, with the winger set to play against Tottenham in next weekend’s North London derby.

“It’s one of those deals that they have to take,” he told Football Insider.

“We understand he earns more than £300,000 a week and we know Chelsea will continue to pay a large part of that.

“Most of the numbers that have been talked about are around £100,000 a week paid by Arsenal.

“All in all, you’re looking at Arsenal getting a player for maybe £6million a year and bringing him back to Chelsea as a 30-year-old who will be 31 in December 2025.

“So, you can imagine there will be limited opportunities for resale, it’s a real limitation of the damage from Chelsea.”

Chelsea will be hoping Sterling does well enough to play in the shop window, and hopefully more clubs will be interested in him next summer.
