The Arsenal transfer target is not interested in a move to the Gunners in January

Arsenal were expected to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window but Mikel Arteta decided to show faith in his current attackers.

The Gunners added David Raya, Mikel Merino, Neto and Riccardo Calafiori to their squad.

Kai Havertz has led the Gunners attack this season and has looked impressive once again.

Apart from him, Arteta has options to use Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard in attack.

One of the players Arsenal were linked with throughout the summer was Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.

According to Football Insider, this Swedish striker has no intention of leaving Sporting in January, both Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in his services.

Premier League clubs could force the situation though, if they activate his £84million release clause.

Gyokeres scored 29 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 Liga Portugal games last season.

He started the new season in the same form he finished last season, with seven goals and one assist in four Liga Portugal games.

According to sources, the striker is currently based in Portugal and would not be interested in a mid-season move.

The striker has four years left on his contract at the club but with interest increasing every month in his services after his impressive performances, a big move away from the Portuguese club is not far off.

Arsenal could face competition from Chelsea to sign Gyokeres

Although Arsenal’s attackers are in good form at the moment, they may once again enter the market for a top-class striker if they want to topple Manchester City’s dominance in the Premier League.

Gyokeres will be ready to leave next summer and the Gunners already know how much they will have to pay to sign him.

It remains to be seen what Chelsea will decide on their striker position after missing out on the signing of Victor Osimhen.

They could join Arsenal in the race to sign Gyokeres next year.
