Arteta succeeded Unai Emery in the role in 2019 having spent four years as part of Pep Guardiola’s staff at Manchester City.

Guardiola’s influence was easy to see as Arteta quickly shaped the Gunners into a hot, multi-talented team, ironically now City’s biggest challenger for the Premier League title.

Arsenal have finished as runners-up to City in the past two seasons, earning them a return to the Champions League following a seven-year absence, as well as winning the FA Cup in 2020.

News of Arteta’s deal will come as a major development ahead of this weekend’s North London derby against Tottenham.

Arsenal go into the game without two key midfielders as Declan Rice is suspended following his red card against Brighton and Martin Odegaard, who picked up an ankle injury against Norway.
