The ball took an inside edge and rolled to Billings right behind the stumps. Seeing an opportunity, Billings pounced on the ball and, with great precision, threw the stumps to catch it. Alick Athanaze very lacking in his place. This crucial run-out ended a fearsome partnership of 72 runs, giving the Falcons a much-needed breakthrough as Athanaze, who was placed on 34, was forced to depart.
Quinton de Kock’s collision with Alick Athanaze is unfortunate
The run-out itself was the result of a poor combination between the batsmen, De Kock and Athanaze. Both players, stuck, tried one after De Kock’s ball, but disaster struck when they collided in mid-field. The confusion between the batsmen gave Billings precious extra seconds to pick up the ball and make the throw, getting Athanaze out. The two batsmen looked frustrated, with de Kock quickly apologizing, but the damage was already done. The collision changed the course of the game, putting the Royals in a critical spot in the chase.

De Kock falls soon after as the rain soon ends
Athanaze’s exit was the start of Royals’ problems, as De Kock bowled two overs after 48, leaving his side at 93/3 in the 12th over. Just as the Royals looked to regain control, incessant rain forced an early end to the game. The D/L method went into effect, and the Royals were declared the winners by 10 runs.

Earlier in the game, Billings overcame a difficult start to the CPL season by scoring his first goal. The 33-year-old wicketkeeper-batter smashed 56 off 43 balls, including five boundaries and a six, to help the Falcons post 176/5 in their 20 overs. Despite his heroic effort, the Falcons fell short again, losing for the fifth time in the tournament. Billings’ form with the bat improved, his season tally reaching 124 runs from seven matches at an average of 20.66. However, the Falcons remain second from bottom in the points table, continuing their difficult campaign.
