Man United’s “natural selection” has been named if Erik ten Hag leaves
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s future at the club has once again become part of the discussion.
It looked as if the dust had settled on his future but two defeats in the first three games of the season made the situation difficult for the Holland coach.
The Red Devils held talks with Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino in the summer but ultimately decided to keep Ten Hag at the club and continue the work he started two years ago.
According to journalist Miguel Delaney, former England manager Gareth Southgate is a “natural hire” if Ten Hag leaves the club.
Speaking on the Back Pages podcast, the reporter said:
“They all joined this high-level program that Ashworth and Brailsford were promoting. And while it would appear that it would make Southgate a natural appointment for United if Ten Hag were to leave, perhaps he is going in a different direction. Although, that kind of connection influences Southgate to expand his horizons and enter into something else, given that, once again, he promoted the idea of a high working culture in England. “
Southgate has fans at Old Trafford and it’s no secret but whether he would be the right man for the Man United job remains to be seen.
Ten Hag have struggled in the Premier League and Champions League but their form in the cup competitions has been excellent.
The Red Devils won the Carabao Cup last season and this year, they managed to win the FA Cup by defeating rivals and Manchester City who won the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag should produce better results at Man United
He has struggled to build the team’s style of play, and with the club having invested heavily in the squad recently, they can expect better results overall.
Southgate has recently stepped down as England manager and is currently without a team.
If the Ten Hag fail to turn around their poor start to the season, 54-year-old Southgate could be called upon to clean up the mess.
