Crystal Palace vs Leicester: Preview, predictions and lineups

Leicester will visit London for the second time this new season as they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

After picking up a well-earned point against Tottenham in Monday night’s opening game of the 2024/25 campaign, Leicester, with few expectations this term, suffered back-to-back defeats before the international break.

The Foxes were beaten 2-1 by Fulham at Craven Cottage before falling to the same result against Aston Villa at the King Power. However, Steve Cooper would have taken many positives from his side’s recent defeat at the hands of a good Villa outfit.

Oliver Glasner’s start to a full season at Palace has been uneventful, although the Eagles did not pick up their first point of 2024/25 at Chelsea two weeks ago. Palace are still coming to terms with the loss of Michael Olise, and are sleeping with new faces.

Austrian coach Glasner will be confident of overseeing his first league win of the new season this weekend.

Here it is 90 min Guide to Crystal Palace vs Leicester in the Premier League.

Adam Wharton

Matheus Franca, who has endured a quiet first season in south London, is sidelined with a broken rib. In his absence, come summer Daichi Kamada will work alongside Eberechi Eze behind Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Adam Wharton did not feature during the international break and is suffering from a thigh injury which has put him in doubt for Saturday’s game. If the Englishman is not fit, Cheick Doucoure will likely partner Will Hughes in the middle of the park.

Palace are also without new defender Chadi Riad due to a knee injury, but Trevoh Chalobah and Maxence Lacroix could both slot into Glasner’s defence.

Crystal Palace predicted to face Leicester (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Chalobah, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Doucoure, Hughes, Mitchell; Kamada, Eze; Mother-in-law

The visitors go into the new campaign with a number of fitness concerns, but Leicester have had a healthy first month of the season.

Patson Daka is the only notable injury absentee for Leicester. The forward is still recovering from an ankle sprain suffered late in the pre-season.

While Jordan Ayew is fit to face his former club this weekend, loanee Odsonne Edouard cannot be named in Cooper’s matchday squad.

Leicester predicted to face Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1): Hermansen; Justin, Faes, Okoli, Kristiansen; Break, Ndidi; Fatawu, Buonanotte, Ayew; Vardy.

It was a poor start for both teams, although Palace went into the break struggling after picking up a point at Stamford Bridge.

We should expect that Glasner’s Eagles will feel a little bit better going into the new season as they look forward to the end of 2023/24 with their new manager. They will arrive fine, but it may take some time.

Still, they should get the job done here. While Ayew will “stand up” especially against his former club, Leicester have been frustrated and proud in three games but will still prove they can compete hard this season. They wouldn’t have had the points on the board if Tottenham were just a bit more clinical on Matchday 1.

The Selhurst Park faithful will be hoping for three points on Saturday, and Glasner’s side will deliver.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-0 Leicester
