Real Madrid and Barcelona will fight to win Euro 2024

Real Madrid and Barcelona are both interested to sign Central midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who starred for Spain at Euro 2024, has been confirmed by reports in Spain.

The 28-year-old plays for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, who he joined in August 2022 after spending four years in Italy with Napoli.

Alongside Nico Williams, Lamine Yamal and Rodri, Fabian was one of the stars of Spain’s successful Euro 2024 campaign, scoring in the group stage against Croatia before netting in a comprehensive 4-1 win over Georgia in the round of 16.

Spanish publication SPORTS reports that Fabian, who has three years left on his PSG contract, is interested in Real Madrid, despite Carlo Ancelotti’s already rich midfield wealth.

The Italian could call upon Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Luka Modric among others, although the latter is 39 and likely to play his last season in the Spanish capital. Ancelotti has worked with Fabian at Napoli.

Fabian could prove to be an interesting replacement for the 15-time Champions League winners, who already have the strongest squad in world football.

Madrid already boast a star trio of Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo ahead of the summer window, but have now added Kylian Mbappe and Endrick to their ranks. They are also very well placed in defense – Antonio Rudiger and Dani Carvajal among the top players in their respective positions.

Barcelona are also thought to be interested in Fabian, even if they have added to their midfield options with the arrival of Dani Olmo. The Catalan giants are still under huge financial pressure – making a summer deal for Williams out of the question – but are determined to strengthen their squad in a bid to topple their bitter rivals.

Head coach Hansi Flick is said to be looking to strengthen in that area, with Bayern Munich duo Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka – two players he managed during his time at Bavaria – also thought to be on his shortlist.

Frenkie de Jong could also leave to make room for a possible arrival, with Fabian seen as an accessible target after PSG cashed in on Benfica youngster Joao Neves to bolster their own options.
