Shams Mulani’s brilliant delivery clears Devdutt Padikkal

In the beginning, Mulani kept a strong line and height, creating a situation where scoring opportunities were limited. His approach was strategic – keeping his possessions well-placed to test the batsman’s approach and patience. On his last ball to Padikkal, Mulani, using the wicket, bowled a full ball outside the off-stump. The key to this delivery was its subtle variation and sharp out pitch.

Mulani’s strategy was to entice Padikkal to play wide, exploiting the eagerness of the goal scorers. Padikkal, expecting a straight ball, went for it through the covers. However, the delivery, which was technically pitched wide and had a lot of spin, deviated too much from the line of the bat. The sharp spin caused Padikkal to misjudge the trajectory, and the ball slipped between bat and pad. This gap, a critical opening, allowed the ball to hit the stumps straight, clear the bails and send Padikkal back to the tent.
