Saleema Imtiaz, Kainat’s mother, becomes Pakistan’s first female referee on the ICC International Development Panel.

Saleema Imtiaz has become the first Pakistani woman to be appointed to the ICC’s international panel of development referees. Imtiaz’s appointment makes him eligible to officiate women’s international matches and ICC women’s events. His first appearance in a bilateral series will be in the T20I series between Pakistan and South Africa starting on Monday in Multan.

“The journey has been full of hard work and sacrifice, but now, as we stand at the end of this new chapter, it all feels worth it,” Imtiaz said in a statement issued by PCB. “This is not just a win for me, it’s a win for every budding female cricketer and umpire in Pakistan. I hope my success will inspire a lot of women who dream of making it big in the sport. This moment shows the growing influence of women in cricket and PCB’s commitment to promote that development.”

Imtiaz is the mother of Kainat Imtiaz, who has played 40 matches for Pakistan so far. The in-form Imtiaz has officiated 22 T20Is so far, 16 on the field and six as a TV umpire. His last match as an on-field referee was the final of the Women’s Asia Cup in Dambulla, between Sri Lanka and India, after officiating three more matches in the tournament.

“Since Kainat started playing in Pakistan in 2010, my dream has been to represent my country at the world level,” he said. “Although I have had opportunities with the Asian Cricket Council, playing at the highest level has always been the main goal. I am now focused on doing my best in both ICC matches, and building my reputation as a trusted and respected game official.”

Imtiaz started his umpiring career with the PCB women’s panel in 2008 and was in charge at the 2022 Asia Cup and 2023 ACC Emerging Women’s Cup in Hong Kong as well.

Ahmed Shahab, Khalid Mehmood Sr., Rana Muhammad Arshad and Qaiser Waheed have been promoted to PCB Elite Panel of Umpires from PCB Supplementary Panel of Umpires. Qaiser will replace Shozab Raza, who will retire on October 31.

The four umpires who will be promoted from the development panel to the supplementary panel are: Anser Mahmood (with effect from November 1), Jamshid Iqbal, Naseer Ahmed and Zeeshan Arif.
