Newcastle fans will have loved how Fabian Schar responded in Sunday’s win over Wolves

Fabian Schar insists Newcastle United can ‘play much better’ and are eager to reach the ‘next level’ following their win over Wolves on Sunday.

The Magpies came from a goal down to beat Wolves 2-1 at Molineux thanks to two fine long-range strikes from Schar and Harvey Barnes.

Newcastle sit in second place and are unbeaten with 10 points from four Premier League games so far.

However, Eddie Howe’s men were not overly satisfied, with all three wins coming by one goal and a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth at the end of August.

Fabian Schar calls on Newcastle to reach ‘next level’

Newcastle United’s Fabian Schaer celebrates scoring his first team goal with teammates Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Newcastle United FC at Molineux on September 15, 2024 in Wolverhampton, England.

Still, Newcastle find a way to dig out results. Now, Schar has challenged his teammates to step it up a gear and once again challenge European destinations.

“I think we started the game well and then we dropped a little bit in our level and at halftime we said we need to do better. Two great goals and a great win away from home and down. It’s big for us,” Schar told Sky Sports after Sunday’s win (via BBC Sport).

“We can play much better. At the moment it’s good to get results and we need to be consistent throughout the game. We want to go to another level.

“We know the feeling of playing in European football but we are not there so we are focusing on the league. We have a lot to achieve and I’m looking forward to the season.”

Next up for Newcastle is a trip to Fulham on Saturday.
