Sean Dyche is considering a replacement for the Everton goalkeeper
Everton are yet to win a Premier League game this season and Jordan Pickford is under pressure because of it.
The Toffees have endured a poor start to the season and sit bottom of the table, separated from winless Southampton on goal difference.
It’s not just results that have gone against the Merseyside side. Another series of defeats, including a 2-0 defeat, left Sean Dyche fighting for his job.
According to recent reports, the 53-year-old player is so determined to change the fortunes of his club that he is thinking of letting go of one of his key players.
Sean Dyche could drop Jordan Pickford
Goalkeeper Pickford has scored 13 league goals this season and is arguably in the worst form of his career.
ILANGA says that the player, 30, is in danger of losing his place with Dyche who is ‘unhappy’ and who is considering closing him in the transfer window in January.
Newcastle United’s Nick Pope – a player Dyche has extensive experience of working with following their time together at Burnley – has emerged as a favorite of the Everton manager.
The Magpies’ stance on losing their number one mid-season is unknown, but it’s fair to assume that Eddie Howe would prefer the club to finally keep hold of the 32-year-old.
For Pickford, these latest reports will be a big deal – not only is his domestic job in jeopardy, but his standing in the England squad is also in jeopardy – and even more so now that Gareth Southgate has stepped down from his role as manager.
Everton host fellow strugglers Southampton in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night. The game between Dyche and Russell Martin, despite being in the second division cup competition, feels very important in the race to avoid becoming the first Premier League manager to be sacked.
