Aymeric Laporte reveals Man City’s message to the players as the trial of 115 charges begins
Former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has revealed the club’s confidence that they will prove their innocence in their 115-count financial fraud trial which begins on Monday.
After a long process of gathering evidence and preparing for the trial, City and the Premier League will finally go head-to-head in a trial that is expected to last around ten weeks and hopefully reach a decision before the start of 2025.
City officials have publicly maintained their innocence and Laporte, who will leave the club in 2023, has revealed they share the same message behind the scenes.
“While I was there, news broke, the sports director [Txiki Begiristain] and the CEO [Ferran Soriano] he came and told all the players and staff that we can all be quiet because there is not a single rule that Man City has broken,” he told the newspaper. Daily Mail.
“They told us that everything is going well, that’s why we all think that City will be fine. I don’t think there will be any problems.
“As Pep Guardiola always says, if something wrong has happened, they will have to pay for it.
Manager Guardiola recently backed his side to clear their name and admitted frustration with rivals praying for their downfall, insisting the evidence will speak for itself.
