Stoke City sack manager after poor start; Ryan Shawcross appointed interim manager
Stoke City have parted ways with manager Steven Schumacher just five games into the new season.
The club have announced that former captain and legend Ryan Shawcross will take over, alongside Alex Morris, while the search for a permanent replacement begins.
The decision to remove Schumacher was made public by Stoke’s Sporting Director, Jonathan Walters, who issued a statement explaining the club’s reasons via (Stoke City website):
“My role as Sporting Director is to make the tough decisions that serve Stoke City’s long-term interests.”
“Following ongoing discussions with John Coates, we feel the time is right for a change that will bring success to the club.”
‘We have a young, dynamic team that is committed to development and a clear vision of how to achieve success, and we hope to announce new appointments very soon. We will need fans, staff, and players united in support to achieve our goals.”

Stoke wasted no time in identifying potential candidates for the long-term role. According to the Daily Mail, the team has been given permission to speak with Norwich City’s first team coach, Narcis Pelach about the vacancy.
Shawcross returns to the lead as caretaker
Ryan Shawcross, an icon of the club, will step in to manage Stoke City on an interim basis. Shawcross enjoyed an impressive playing career with Stoke, having joined from Manchester United in 2007.
His presence in defense helped Stoke gain promotion to the Premier League in his first season, and he quickly became the cornerstone of the club’s success under Tony Pulis.
He was known for his strong leadership, physical fitness, and no-nonsense defensive style, which endeared him to the Stoke faithful.
Over the years, he made 400 appearances for the Potters and was part of their run to the 2011 FA Cup final, which led to a Europa League campaign the following season.
Stoke fans will no doubt rally behind Shawcross as he takes over, while the club work to secure a new long-term appointment.
