Barcelona have confirmed the midfielder’s injury recovery

Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Fermin Lopez will be sidelined for three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

The La Liga leaders are already preparing for their first Champions League game without big summer signing Dani Olmo, who has a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for up to five weeks.

Fermin missed the 4-1 win over Girona with a minor leg injury picked up on international duty, but returned to training on Tuesday to give Hansi Flick’s side a big boost, only to limp off with a problem in his leg. .

“His estimated time will be around three weeks,” Barcelona confirmed in a short statement.

Midfield seems to be the real place for Flick’s head, his options in midfield are incredibly limited. Pedri is the only top option available along with 21-year-old Pablo Torre and Marc Casado. 16-year-old Guille Fernandez was an unused substitute at the weekend.

Frenkie de Jong and Gavi have both joined part of the team’s training sessions in the past few days but are expected to be sidelined for a while, while Marc Bernal’s season is already over after suffering a serious ACL injury.

A trip to Monaco awaits Barcelona on Thursday, before their bid to continue their impressive start to the La Liga campaign continues at Villarreal on Sunday.
