Wentworth unveils plans to renovate East Course – Golf News

The Wentworth Club has unveiled plans to renovate its 100-year-old East Course and build a new golf school and par-3 course.

The 6,200-yard East Course in the famous Surrey area was designed by Harry Colt and first opened for play in 1924, two years before the more famous West Course, site of this week’s BMW PGA Championship, was built.

The renovation project, to be carried out by leading European Golf Design architects in close collaboration with Wentworth’s senior management team, will aim to return the par-68 course to its heathland roots, restoring Colt’s original values.

The East Course will be renovated, with an extensive renovation of the bunkers and a redefinition of the fairways.

Among the changes revealed include extensive bunker reshaping, with a number of the course’s smaller residential areas being combined to create larger ones, while several of the green structures and the fairway will also be reshaped and redefined.

The wood management program will improve the situation as part of the group’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

In another development, the club will build a new golf school which will include three indoor teaching studios, a putting studio, an outdoor short game area and a cafe with outdoor seating.

“The renovation work on the East Course is a clear sign as we continue to strive to make the classic heathland experience even more so, while recognizing the original roots that have made the course iconic. Meanwhile, the development of our new Golf Academy will only enhance the golf offering we have in Wentworth.”
