Fulham vs Newcastle: Preview, predictions and fixtures

Newcastle are on the road for the second weekend in a row as they travel to the capital to face Marco Silva’s Fulham.

The Magpies were far from home last season, but they enjoyed the trip to Craven Cottage – securing FA Cup and Premier League victories at Fulham.

They started their trip on a positive note this term, with a brace from Harvey Barnes helping Eddie Howe’s side beat Wolves 1-0 last weekend. Unlike their upcoming opponents, Newcastle have enjoyed a week off, but they will be in action in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Fulham were involved in a record penalty shootout defeat on Tuesday as they crashed out of the Carabao Cup despite successfully converting 15 penalties against second-placed Preston. Silva’s side also looked balanced and settled despite the summer exit of Joao Palhinha, and they were a long way from securing another win over West Ham last weekend before Danny Ings struck at the death.

Here it is 90 min guide to Saturday’s Premier League clash at Craven Cottage.

Saturday’s athletes are concerned about one injury heading into Saturday’s game. Silva will be without reserve striker Carlos Vinicius due to a minor calf injury, but the former Tottenham striker is not expected to be sidelined for long.

The manager made some big changes in the Cottagers’ shock cup defeat last week, so Fulham’s key starters will return to the fold well rested.

Raul Jimenez could keep Rodrigo Muniz out, and we could see on-loan Reiss Nelson join his former Arsenal team-mate Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi in Saturday’s XI.

Fulham predicted schedule vs Newcastle (4-2-3-1): This one; Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Pereira; Nelson, Smith Rowe, Iwobi; Jimenez.

Sandro Tonali could make his first Premier League start since returning from his lengthy suspension on Saturday coming off the bench at Molineux last weekend. The Italian could replace Sean Longstaff in the playing XI if he were to return.

Joe Willock has returned from injury and is back in contention, but Callum Wilson remains out for the visitors. There are also doubts over Alexander Isak’s status for Saturday’s trip to London, so we could see Anthony Gordon used as a big part up front.

Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, and Lewis Miley are all sidelined with long-term injuries.

Newcastle predicted schedule vs Fulham (4-3-3): The Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Gordon, Barnes.

Isak’s absence may have been significant, but Newcastle’s record against Fulham is astonishing. The Magpies have won the last six meetings between the two sides, with the Cottagers’ last victory in this fixture coming in 2017 when the two competed in the Championship.

Newcastle’s success against Silva’s side will fill the visitors with plenty of confidence despite current injury concerns, although Fulham’s stability and balance should allow them to compete hard in almost every game this season, especially at home.

This is an exciting one, and we’ll be backing the visitors to carry the momentum they gained from last weekend’s win over Wolves into Saturday’s game.

Prediction: Fulham 1-2 Newcastle
