NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, and New York Rangers

Mitch Marner only wants to hear about extended talks if they’re really important

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Toronto Maple Leafs pending UFA forward Mitch Marner said he’s not against having contract talks during the season but doesn’t want to get involved unless they’re really important.

“I don’t know if I can say that,” he replied. “But I think for me, unless it’s really important or (I’m) really needed, I’m going to let my agent and Brad talk and bring things up. I will focus on playing hockey and trying to help this team win games.”

NHL Rumors: Will the Detroit Red Wings carry three goals this season?

The New York Rangers and Igor Shesterkin are close to an extension

Arthur Staple and Peter Baugh of the Athletic: It doesn’t appear that contract extension talks between the New York Rangers and goaltender Igor Shesterkin have progressed much over the past few months. Two league sources said as of the weekend they are “not remotely close.”

Sources said if an agreement cannot be reached before the start of the regular season, they will be shut down until the end of the season. That’s not to say that negotiations may not happen in the background, the Shesterkins don’t want it to be a distraction.

Shesterkin is poised to become the highest paid goaltender in the NHL. The Carry Price is up to $10.5 million.

What’s Happening With The Vancouver Canucks Goaltending Situation

Mollie Walker of the NY Post: Back in June The Post reported that Igor Shesterkin was after $12 million per season, and league sources have confirmed that is what he wants.

Shesterkin is strong as a pending UFA. If it continues for a long time, it will be dangerous for Rangers as there will be teams that have room to give him what he wants if he hits the mark. Shesterkin said he loves the organization and the city.
