Jaylen Brown’s Text to Derrick White Amid Olympic Replacement Snub
One of the biggest stories of the summer was Derrick White getting the call to replace Kawhi Leonard on Team USA over Jaylen Brown.
Coming off a game with the Celtics, Brown was crowned the Finals MVP and called Leonard’s replacement, but Team USA didn’t think so.
Brown took to social media to express his displeasure with this scandal and called out Nike, who are sponsors of Team USA, for being involved in this decision. “What are we doing?” Brown said to X as he tagged the shoe giant.
White could have taken Brown’s public outcry personally, but Brown made sure to text him and cleared the air, ESPNRamona Shelburne reported.
“Brown texted Mhlophe directly to make sure he knew none of this was about him,” said Shelburne.
The Boston guard took direct aim at Director of Football Grant Hill in some recent tweets, after Hill mentioned a ‘conspiracy theory’ about Brown.
For the Celtics, there was nothing surprising about Brown’s behavior – they probably expected it.
“That’s Jaylen,” a team source said ESPN. “He is not afraid to speak what is in his heart. Jaylen always sits on the shoulder and sees strangers everywhere. “
Brown’s teammate, Al Horford was impressed with Brown’s form over the weekend and it looks like he is ready to prove the doubters wrong again this season.
“I was in the gym with Jaylen a few weeks ago,” Horford said. “First of all, this guy looked like he was 10 kilos heavier. She looks great – just unreal. He’s very hungry, he’s motivated, he’s very driven.”
At Boston’s news day on Tuesday, White was asked if there was an elephant in the room after he made Team USA over Brown, to which White replied, “There are no elephants there.”
