JJ Redick on Lakers job: ‘I know I deserve this opportunity’

JJ Redick on the challenge of the Lakers job and crossing the coaching line: “About crossing the line… I think there’s a misconception about the idea that somebody deserves something or somebody doesn’t deserve anything. Ultimately, it is the organization’s responsibility to find the right coach for that team and organization with whatever skills they may have. There has never been a moment when I haven’t felt an overwhelming level of gratitude, and yes, I feel lucky. I feel lucky to have this opportunity, but I know that I deserve this opportunity as well. It’s not because I spent seven years as an assistant coach—it’s because I’ve worked hard at this basketball job for the past 32 years.”
