Mehidy Hasan returns as Bangladesh announce T20I squad to tour India

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, which will begin on October 6, 2024. The series will begin in Gwalior, followed by matches in New Delhi and the Hyderabad.

BCB recalls Mehidy Hasan Miraz

One of the highlights of the team is the return of the best player Mehidy Hasan Mirazwho last played a T20I in July 2023. His recall comes after that Shakib Al Hasan’s retirement from the format, Mehidy is expected to play a prominent role in the lineup. Beside him, the batsman opens to the left Parvez Hossain Emon and an orthodox left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan are also included, marking their return to the T20I side.

Expectations of the main selector of Bangladesh

Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain emphasized that the changes in the squad are aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s batting line-up while giving opportunities to players who have shown promise in recent domestic tournaments.

“There are some reasons why we brought these changes. We want to try Parvez Hossain Emon and before the World Cup we kept him in training sessions and monitored him and in the Tigers camp he trained well so we felt we wanted to include him,” said the BCB chief selector in his official statement.

“In the middle, the great Shakib Al Hasan announced that he has played his last T20 game and the experience he had is that no one is close to that but what we hear is that the person who can bat in his place is Mehidy. Miraz.”

Gazi added: “We feel that he can contribute a lot with his batting and he is good with off-spin and we consider his batting and bowling to be very important in Tests and ODIs.

“We didn’t want him to lose his rhythm because of T20 cricket and we had discussed that with Mehidy why we didn’t keep him in the T20 World Cup but sometimes unexpected things happen so we close the gap with the one who is considered the best option. I think he should get the balls to play and not play like a coach.”

With Mehidy back and focus on batting, fans are eager to see how this improved squad fares against a formidable Indian side.
